Redding Recreation, with the aid of a Building Community Capacity for Unintentional Injury Prevention Grant from the California Kid’s Plates’ Fund, has joined together a group of community partners to create the Shasta County Drowning Prevention Coalition.

The objective of creating this coalition is to bring agencies and individuals together to increase the understanding of child drowning injury trends in Shasta County waterways and Shasta County community pools. In addition to reviewing, discussing and assembling available local drowning injury data, the Coalition will lend guidance and expertise to increase awareness of drowning prevention best practices through a media campaign targeted to the residents of Shasta County. As a result of these efforts, we hope to achieve the goal of reducing drowning related injuries and increase the number of Shasta County citizens participating in water safety programming and exhibiting water safe behavior.
